- Description
Product Overview
Most camera decisions are a trade. More megapixels usually means smaller pixels and worse night performance. Better AI usually means a lower frame rate. You pick which compromise you can live with.
The Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO-ANZ is the model in this range where you do not have to. It pairs 8MP resolution with a 1/1.8″ sensor — physically larger than the sensor in either the 6MP or the standard 8MP TiOC — and an exceptionally wide F1.0 aperture. More pixels and more light per pixel, running at a full 25/30 fps with the AI enabled.
That hardware is what makes WizColor possible. Rather than waiting for a warm LED to fire before colour appears, WizColor combines AI-ISP processing with the large sensor and wide aperture to produce full-colour images from whatever ambient light already exists — moonlight, street glow, a distant porch light. Colour arrives before the illuminator does.
On top sits the full TiOC feature set: red and blue warning lights with a siren and customisable voice alarms, dual microphones and a speaker for two-way talk, SMD 4.0 human and vehicle classification, tripwire and intrusion zones, AcuPick AI target search, AI Scene Self-Adaptation, microSD to 512 GB, IP67 sealing rated from −40°C to +60°C, and PoE at 10 W maximum.
Where This Sits in the TiOC Range
Dahua's TiOC model numbers differ by only a few characters, so here is the practical difference between the four we stock. All of them include red and blue strobe, siren, two-way talk, SMD 4.0 and perimeter protection — the differences are in the imaging hardware and the search capability.
| Model | Resolution | Sensor | AcuPick | Best suited to |
| HDW3649H-AS-PV-ANZ | 6MP | 1/2.7″ | No | Budget deterrence across several positions |
| HDW3649H-AS-PV-PRO-ANZ | 6MP | 1/1.8″ | Yes | Dark sites where low light beats pixel count |
| HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ | 8MP | 1/2.8″ | No | Well-lit sites needing 4K crop detail |
| HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO-ANZ | 8MP | 1/1.8″ | Yes | This page — best of both, no trade-off |
The pattern worth understanding: on the non-PRO models, choosing 8MP over 6MP means accepting a smaller sensor and weaker low-light performance. The PRO models use a much larger 1/1.8″ sensor, which removes that compromise entirely. This model is the only one in the range with both the highest resolution and the largest sensor.
Key Capabilities
WizColor Full-Colour Night Imaging
The headline capability. WizColor combines AI-ISP processing with the large-pixel sensor and wide aperture to produce vivid full-colour images at night from ambient light alone — moonlight, city glow, street lighting. Unlike a plain dual-light camera it does not need the warm LED to fire before colour appears, and monitoring distance is not limited by illuminator range.
1/1.8″ Large-Format Sensor
The specification behind everything else. A 1/1.8″ sensor has substantially more surface area than the 1/2.7″ and 1/2.8″ formats used elsewhere in this range, so each pixel gathers more light even at 8MP. Less digital gain is needed, which means clean images rather than the smeary noise that ruins most night footage.
F1.0 Aperture
Exceptionally wide for a fixed-lens security camera, and it does real work — more light through the glass means less amplification is required to brighten the image. Paired with the 2.8 mm focal length it delivers a field of view up to 131°, so you get both the light-gathering and the coverage.
8MP at Full 25/30 fps
3840 × 2160 at a full 25/30 fps with the AI running — worth noting, because the standard 8MP TiOC drops to 20 fps once AI functions are enabled. Here you get the resolution, the analytics and the frame rate together, with three simultaneous streams for recording and remote viewing.
Red and Blue Warning Lights with Siren
Alternating red and blue strobe plus a built-in siren and customisable voice alarms, triggered automatically when a person or vehicle is confirmed in a defined zone. The value is timing — a response delivered while someone is still deciding whether to proceed does work that footage reviewed tomorrow cannot.
AcuPick AI Target Search
The camera generates appearance metadata as it records, so on a compatible Dahua NVR you can search live and recorded footage for a specific person or vehicle by their characteristics rather than scrubbing a timeline. On a site that generates regular incidents, this turns an afternoon of review into a few seconds.
SMD 4.0 and Perimeter Protection
Deep learning classification separates people and vehicles from animals, foliage and shadows, while tripwire and intrusion rules let you define exactly which boundaries matter. On a deterrence camera this accuracy is critical — it governs both your notifications and when the siren actually fires.
Dual Microphones and Speaker
Two built-in microphones and a speaker support live two-way talk through the DMSS app from anywhere. Pre-recorded voice warnings can also play automatically on detection. Being addressed directly by a live voice is a markedly stronger deterrent than an alarm tone alone.
AI SSA and Image Processing
AI Scene Self-Adaptation adjusts image parameters in real time to suit conditions rather than holding a fixed profile. Combined with WDR, HLC, BLC, 3D noise reduction, ROI and rotation mode, it keeps quality consistent across the changeable conditions that defeat cheaper cameras.
Smart Dual Illumination to 30 m
A multi-core illuminator carrying both infrared and warm white LEDs, each reaching 30 m. Because WizColor already produces colour from ambient light, the warm illuminator is there as a supplement for genuinely dark conditions rather than as the only route to a colour image.
512 GB Edge Storage
Double the card capacity of the standard TiOC models, which matters at 4K where files are large. Enough for genuine standalone operation, or as a backup layer so footage survives on the camera if the recorder is stolen or drops offline. FTP, SFTP and NAS storage also supported.
IP67, −40°C to +60°C, Low PoE Draw
Fully dust-tight and sealed against water, rated across a temperature range far beyond anything an Australian site produces. Draws a maximum of 10 W on PoE even with WDR, warm light, siren and full intelligence running — light on a shared switch budget for a camera doing this much.
Best For
WizColor works from ambient light alone
Intervention rather than documentation
AcuPick search saves hours per incident
Best imaging in the deterrence range
Zone rules plus verbal response
Response where nobody is nearby
Why Choose the PRO
Every camera on this site involves a compromise somewhere, and on the standard models that compromise is usually low light. Choose more megapixels and you get smaller pixels. Choose the AI and you lose frame rate. The PRO exists to remove both.
The imaging hardware is genuinely different. A 1/1.8″ sensor and an F1.0 aperture are the two specifications that decide how a camera behaves after dark, and this model has the best of both in the range. That is what makes WizColor work — it is not a software mode you can add to a lesser camera, it depends on physically gathering more light. The practical result is full-colour footage in conditions where a standard camera would already be in greyscale infrared, and colour that does not stop at the edge of an illuminator's reach.
Nothing is traded away to get it. Unlike the standard 8MP TiOC, this runs at a full 25/30 fps with the AI enabled rather than dropping to 20. It carries 512 GB of edge storage rather than 256 GB. And it adds AcuPick, so footage is searchable by target appearance instead of by scrubbing.
The deterrence is the same as the rest of the range — red and blue warning lights, siren, customisable voice alarms, two-way talk, SMD 4.0 and perimeter zones. What you are paying for here is what happens when deterrence does not work and the footage has to stand up on its own.
If your site is well lit and you are covering several positions on a budget, one of the standard models is the more sensible buy and we will tell you so. If the position is dark, or high-value, or the one that actually matters, this is the camera. Total Security Equipment supplies genuine Dahua Australian stock from showrooms in Melbourne and Sydney, with compatible NVRs, brackets, storage and PoE gear, trade accounts for installers, and local warranty handling.

Ideal Use Cases
Unlit Rural Driveways and Boundaries
This is where the 1/1.8″ sensor and F1.0 aperture justify the price difference. A driveway with no street lighting is exactly the condition that separates a good low-light camera from an adequate one, and it is also where response times are longest — so a camera that intervenes on its own with strobe, siren and voice is doing genuine work rather than just documenting.
Commercial Sites With Regular Incidents
Where footage gets reviewed weekly rather than yearly, AcuPick changes the economics. Searching for a specific person or vehicle by appearance rather than scrubbing a timeline turns each review from an hour into minutes — which compounds quickly across a year of insurance claims, disputes and police requests.
Yards, Plant and Equipment Storage
High-value equipment sitting unattended overnight is a standing target, and yards are usually too large to secure physically. An intrusion zone around the compound with deterrence armed after hours means anyone entering meets light and noise immediately, while you get a notification and can speak through the camera from wherever you are.
Closed Retail and Service Laneways
Loitering and after-hours access at rear doors and loading areas is common and rarely worth attending. Two-way talk resolves most of these in seconds from home, and WizColor handles the uneven, patchy lighting typical of service laneways where a standard camera would drop to greyscale.
The One Position That Actually Matters
Most properties do not need their best camera everywhere — they need it in one place. The driveway where the cars are. The gate everyone comes through. The shed with the tools in it. The rear door that keeps getting tried. A sensible system usually pairs several standard cameras for general coverage with one significantly better camera on the position that would actually cost you something. This is that camera: the largest sensor in the range, the widest aperture, full frame rate with AI running, searchable footage, and an active response that fires before anything happens. Put the standard TiOC models on the perimeter and put this where it counts.
Choosing the Right Model
Choose this model if…
- The position is dark or unevenly lit — the 1/1.8″ sensor and F1.0 aperture are the reason to buy this.
- You want continuous full colour at night rather than colour only during events.
- You need 8MP at a full 25/30 fps with the AI running.
- You review footage often enough that AcuPick search would save real time.
- This is the one position on the site that genuinely matters.
- You want active deterrence and the best imaging in the range, without trading one for the other.
Choose a different model if…
- The site is well lit and you are covering several positions on a budget. A standard 6MP or 8MP TiOC does the same deterrence job for less.
- You are not running a Dahua NVR that supports AcuPick. You would be paying for a feature you cannot use.
- The camera is close to neighbours and a siren would cause more problems than it solves. A standard WizSense turret gives the same AI detection quietly.
- You need adjustable framing or longer reach. A motorised varifocal TiOC offers zoom with the same deterrence.
- You need readable plates on moving vehicles. That is a dedicated ANPR job.
- You only need documentation, not intervention. Deterrence adds cost and setup you will not use.
FAQs
What is the difference between the PRO and the standard 8MP TiOC?
Four things, and they compound. The PRO uses a 1/1.8″ sensor against the standard model's 1/2.8″ — physically much larger, so far better in low light. It runs 8MP at a full 25/30 fps where the standard drops to 20 fps once AI is enabled. It adds AcuPick target search. And it takes a 512 GB card rather than 256 GB. The deterrence features are identical on both. If your site is well lit and budget matters, the standard model is the sensible buy.
What is WizColor and how is it different from dual light?
A plain dual-light camera runs infrared until something is detected, then fires a warm LED to produce colour — so colour only exists during events and only within the illuminator's reach. WizColor uses AI-ISP processing together with the large sensor and F1.0 aperture to produce colour from whatever ambient light already exists, including moonlight and reflected city glow. Colour is available continuously and is not capped by illuminator range. The warm light remains as a supplement for genuinely black conditions.
Why does sensor size matter more than megapixels?
Because resolution tells you how many pixels there are, not how much light each one collects. A 1/1.8″ sensor is physically larger than a 1/2.7″ or 1/2.8″, so at the same resolution each pixel is bigger and gathers more light. Less digital gain is needed to brighten the image, which means less noise. In daylight the two look similar; as light drops the larger sensor pulls ahead noticeably. On a dark site, sensor format is a better guide than megapixel count.
What does F1.0 mean in practice?
Aperture describes how much light the lens lets through, and a lower number means more light. F1.0 is exceptionally wide for a fixed-lens security camera. More light through the glass means the camera needs less electronic amplification to produce a bright image, and less amplification means less noise. It is one of the two hardware specifications — alongside sensor size — that actually determine night performance.
What is AcuPick and do I need a specific NVR?
AcuPick tags recorded targets with appearance metadata so footage can be searched by what someone or something looked like, rather than by scrubbing through time. The tagging happens at the camera, but the search interface lives in the recorder and requires a compatible Dahua NVR. On any other recorder the camera records normally and you simply do not get the search. Confirm your NVR before ordering if AcuPick is part of why you are choosing this model.
Does active deterrence actually work?
For opportunistic intrusion, generally yes — opportunists depend on being unobserved and unhurried, and red and blue strobe with a siren removes both conditions in about two seconds. It is less relevant against someone specifically targeting a property who expects a response. Treat it as a strong first layer that resolves most casual incidents, not as a replacement for locks, lighting and an alarm system. The imaging is your fallback for the times it does not work.
Will the siren go off constantly?
Not if it is set up properly. Deterrence triggers on SMD 4.0 classification, so it responds to people and vehicles rather than animals, foliage or shadows, and perimeter zones narrow it further to specific areas. The two things that cause problems are zones drawn too wide — taking in a road or footpath — and leaving deterrence armed around the clock. Draw tightly, arm on a schedule, and it fires when it should.
Can I turn the deterrence off when we are home?
Yes — deterrence can be armed and disarmed from the DMSS app, and it can run to a schedule. Recording and AI classification continue regardless; only the alarm response is suspended. Most people run it armed overnight and while the property is empty, and disarmed during normal household hours.
Can I record my own warning message?
Yes. The camera supports customisable voice alarms that play automatically when an event triggers, and you can also speak live through the dual microphones and speaker via the DMSS app. A specific message naming the property and stating that footage is being recorded is far more effective than a generic siren, because it makes clear a real person is involved.
How much storage will four of these use?
More than the standard 8MP TiOC, because this runs at 25/30 fps rather than 20. AI coding and H.265+ offset a good deal of it. If you have a retention target in mind, tell us the camera count and we will size the drive properly. Also confirm your recorder handles 8MP per channel, or it will downscale the stream and waste the resolution you paid for.
Are there legal issues with the audio or the siren?
Two things worth checking. Audio recording is governed by state and territory surveillance device legislation restricting recording of private conversations — in Victoria that is the Surveillance Devices Act 1999. A speaker adds a further dimension in shared or public-facing spaces, so signage matters and legal advice is sensible for workplaces or publicly accessible sites. Separately, a siren near residential neighbours may fall under local council noise provisions, so check your council's requirements before installing.
Will it work on a non-Dahua NVR?
Video recording will generally work via ONVIF. Deterrence rules, perimeter zone management, SMD 4.0 event handling, AcuPick search, two-way talk and DMSS integration depend on the recorder understanding Dahua events, which in practice means a compatible Dahua NVR. Since those features are the entire reason to buy this camera, pairing it accordingly is the sensible approach — we can confirm compatibility with what you already have.
Will it cope with harsh Australian conditions?
Yes. IP67 means fully dust-tight and sealed against water immersion, and the camera is rated from −40°C to +60°C — covering rooftop heat, tropical humidity, coastal salt air and inland dust. The rating applies to the camera body, so seal the cable entry and use a weatherproof junction box for any termination, because that join rather than the housing is where outdoor failures almost always begin.
Where can I buy it and what support is included?
Available from Total Security Equipment online and across both showrooms, with Australia-wide shipping and compatible Dahua NVRs, brackets, junction boxes, storage and PoE gear in stock. Trade accounts and volume pricing are available for installers, and our team can help with zone setup, deterrence scheduling and NVR pairing so the camera works properly from day one.
